Summer Reading

One of my favorite seasonal changes is when school winds down in the summer and it leads into lazy days of reading. You can finally read all the books you kept meaning to get to during the hectic pace of the school year!

Favorite Resource #1:

Your local library's summer reading program! For me as a kid, summer never really started until we went to the library and signed up for the summer reading program. I still remember ogling all the prizes and trying to do the mental math to figure out how many hours I would need to read each day to get my sought-after prize. We are usually so excited for our summer reading program that we sign up days before it officially begins!

Favorite Resource #2:

Reading all those books you have lying around the house! I am bad about buying books throughout the year thinking we're going to crack it open the day it arrives. But the reality is that it doesn't always happen that way. Summer is the perfect time to pull out all those books you meant to read but haven't yet. Gather them together in your favorite basket so it's easy for everyone to choose their favorite for summer reading.

Favorite Resource #3:

The Summer Reading Calendar from Everyday Reading! This calendar is seriously so cool! It has everything and more to get your kids (or you!) motivated to dig into some new books for the summer. We don't need much motivation to pick up a book and read but what I love about this *free* printable is that it encourages you to think outside the box with the books and genres of books you choose for summer reading. And you can print it in any size from standard printer paper to larger than life! This is going to be such a fun summer memory.

Happy reading! Let me know if you have any other cool resources like the Summer Reading Calendar to keep the book choices fresh and new!
